Default TLC for the Filipino women and their children

I've noticed your interest in checking my post on CHILD abuse act in the Philippines, got another one for you, a stern warning this time around.

An act on protecting women and their children from abuse of spouse/common law partner/lover was enacted in 2004 otherwise known as "Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004".

As used in this Act, (a) "Violence against women and their children" refers to any act or a series of acts committed by any person against a woman who is his wife, former wife, or against a woman with whom the person has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child, or against her child whether legitimate or illegitimate, within or without the family abode, which result in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty. It includes, but is not limited to, the following acts: physical violence, sexual violence ,psychological violence and economic abuse.

This is considered a public crime thus anybody-related to the victim/s or not-who is aware of the circumstances of the violent incident/s against the Filipino woman and/or her child/ren may file charges against the offender.

I've attached a copy of the law and the corresponding implementing rules and regulation http://www.cedaw-watch.org/ra9262.pdf

reminds me about the great uproar against the Barrameda murder case. we Pinoys are very alarmed at such violations and would do everything in our means to stop such. our background has ingrained the idea of deep respect for women and great concern for kids in our native value system. though we have modernized a bit, many of us are still proponents of the old value system.

when i teach Filipino martial arts, for instance, i incorporate respect for rights, life, women and children, fellowmen, and the environment. it's not the fighting or the art alone; it's the proper value system.

Though such crime arises from time time, it's innate for Filipinos to be caring and sympathetic to everyone most specially to the women and children. But I posted this so that our foreign visitors and friends who find/choose a Filipino partner will be reminded on how to treat our her and her/their children.

I admire your advocacy in keeping the proper value system in your martial art class. Keep it up Chef!
