Are the philippines safe

I will be traveling alone to the philippines in June to meet a girl who I met on the internet. I have never traveled outside of Vietnam and was wondering if it is safe to travel to the philippines alone? I will be flying into Manilla and staying in Baguio city for part of the trip. Are there areas that should be avoided? are there any areas that are a must see? any great restaurants or dishes I should try? I am a chef of 25 years and will really appreciate any food advice I can receive because it will be not only be a trip to meet someone I really care for but I also want to experience the food & culture.

What to See in Manila City
