Thumbs down Filipino Hospitality...

BIR implements ‘Oplan Kandado’ program | Sun.Star Network Online

Apparently a hotel in Angeles City is accused of not reporting all their income to BIR - if true sure there should be consequences for the hotel...

But I have a friend who was staying in the hotel and he could relay to me that BIR closed the hotel AND told the guests (tourists) staying in 106 rooms of the hotel to get out as well.

Putting that many tourists at such an inconvenience is just plain insane.

I hope somebody high up in the board of tourism gets ahold of this info and makes sure such an action against the country's tourism does not go unpunished.

The Philippines is spending a fortune promoting and advertising the country as a tourist destination but actions like this can easily counter these investments.

Again, I am not defending the hotel in any way, I am just VERY upset about the way the Filipino government treated the tourists of the 106 rooms in this hotel...

One step forward - Three steps back.

Well, x-mas and elections are coming, I am sure some "extra-tax" need to be channeled into the right wallets and all will be fine again.

Another famous provincial official need to jump of course on this boat and announced in an interview the following statement:

Expats' dummies own most of dive site's properties

September 3, 2009, 7:53pm

DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) — Most if not all of the foreshore areas in Dauin town in Negros Oriental are now in the hands of foreigners engaged in the business of resorts and dive shops.

Dauin, which is some 12 kilometers north of Dumaguete, capital city of Negros Oriental province, is considered one of the best world-class dive destinations in the country.

A total of 14 foreigners reportedly own resorts and beaches in Dauin, some of them using dummies as incorporators.

This was confirmed by Mayor Rodrigo Alanano who assured his constituents he will pursue efforts to collect taxes from said dummy-fronted businesses.

The mayor said he has reason to believe some of these resorts and dive shops are not paying the right taxes due Government.

He said these resorts earn millions of pesos, but not even a fourth of their gross income is declared.

The mayor disclosed that these resorts and dive shops buy tickets from the municipality at R200 per dive at the marine sanctuary and then turn around and sell these tickets for as much as R2,500 to dive enthusiasts.

From January to July this year, Dauin town had earnings of R6.5 million from dive tickets alone.

With data gathered in cooperation with the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Alanano said he will not stop and will not give up until these foreigners pay the right taxes.

Alanano said one foreigner engaged in resorts and dive shops is presently establishing an upland resort with a different name using dummies.

After some calls to the resorts I found out that he should have a mimimum of 10 Million in his wallet... wonder where the missing 3.5 are....

Well, foreigners are welcome to invest, and after they spend Millions, bringing also Millions of visitors over the years who spend billions outside the resorts into the local economy, it is time to kick them out and ruin the business again with running local style...

Diving wise, the Philippines would not even exist on the worldmap of diving if those pioneers wouldn't have invested their money into the industry.

Of course taxes have to be paid accordingly and if businesses don't pay, shut them down !!!

I assume if it would run like that 95% of local businesses would be closed down first...

cheers

There are many ways to get the tax-cheaters...

... throwing 100 plus cash-bringing tourists out of their room is insane, ridiculous and for sure is none of them.

That should go into the Guinness book as " the most stupid way to treat visitors of your country".

that is exactly the Philippine hospitality which makes those 100 plus visitors to "promote" the Philippines until the end of their days.

I wonder how far officials would go to p!@$ off tourists and investors.... nah, there is no ending when it comes to showing off and having the face in the newspaper...to show some "power"...

well Rhoody calm down, common sense did also not exist in the ancient world of the great philosophers...

Nasredin Hodja, the famous Turkish philosopher wrote;

One day, Hodja sat in a tree and was cutting a branch that he was sitting on. A stranger was walking there and saw what Hodja was doing.

'Hey, excuse me Hodja!' said the stranger, 'if you keep on cutting that branch, then you are going to fall down from the tree'.

Hodja didn't care of the stranger and continued on cutting the branch. Then the branch suddenly broke and Hodja fell from the tree.

'Help!' Hodja shouted to his neighbours, 'I must catch that stranger who knew my fall, I'm sure he knows when I'm going to die, too'.

have a great week to all
