The ride to Baler, Aurora via Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya takes about seven hours to include stopovers for meals and rest.Although I passed by several landslides the trip is worth since you pass along beautiful scenery like dams, forest cover, long and winding road, local culture as seen from your bus window. There are no nighttime trip to Baler and back due to the peace and order situation and the condition of the road going to Baler, particularly from Nueva Vizcaya. To motorists of Baler, landslides are given factors which they consider as part of everyday life. The skirmishes in the mountains between the communist rebels and the military are also facts of life for residents. But it is still worth risking. Baler, for example, is a historical place. Its church was the refuge of Spanish soldiers who were under siege during the revolution. It is a place where the revolutionarios got their taste of victory against the invaders. But above all the beaches of Baler are so inviting that you would love to dip there anytime of the day or night. You can swim just in front of your hotel is you are staying at the Bay's Inn, which is owned by the Angaras. There is also night life in Baler. Bay's Inn, for example, offer live music courtesy of local talents and local singers who made names in Makati, particularly at Merck's Bar in the metropolis. Baler will celebrate its 400th year as a town on August 19, which is incidentally the birth anniversary of Manuel Quezon.

We went there early 2008, it was an exciting journey especially when the bus started traversing the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, simply awesome! ..... SEAIR flies to Baler ( from Manila) during surfing season (October to February) but if you're in for the real trip, year-round land travel is highly recommended. But beyond Baler, Aurora Province has a lot more to offer from it's important role in Philippine History, to rich foliage, magnificent waterfalls and of course the raging waves of Pacific Ocean. Aurora (particularly Baler) is a haven for surfing aficionados and Aurora Cup is held every February. Last edited by smallbird; August 14th, 2009 at 07:39 AM.

I visited Baler about a month ago. You're right, the road going to Baler is a feast for pro-environmentalists and the route is a destination in itself. You will pass by forests, dams, rice farms, streams, long and winding road and even tribal members in modern clothes going to school. You can surf even just a few meters off the beach in front of of Bay Inn's resort in Poblacion Baler. I took a dip in a cove about 15-minute motorboat ride away from the fisherman's wharf. There are waterfalls and even diving sites off the beaches of Baler. You can contact Vic Molina, a former dive master of President Arroyo and presently tourism consultant of senator Ed Angara, if you want to enjoy the water and inland activities in Baler. Baler is a jewel that need to be discovered. One drawback, however, is the peace and order situation in Baler. No nighttime trip is available by bus because of the dangerous winding and steep inclines and hairpin turns and the presence of communist rebels along the forested part of the route. During rainy days, landslides are regular occurrences that people there are used to landslides and delays in their travel. The bus ride from Cubao takes about seven hours to include mandatory meal stops and other emergency stops for checkup and maintenance.
