Default Holy Week 2012 travel

It looks like I may be visiting the Metro during the middle of Holy Week, and I'd like to travel outside of the Metro a few days after Easter. Does anyone know where the least crowded spots might be?

I'm interested in historic sights, the beach (just to relax by), and local food. I was thinking of basing myself in Laoag so that I would be close to both Vigan and Pagudpud, or maybe Dumaguete and Siquijor.

Any suggestions?

Dumaguete is nice that time of year and not only would you have a nice day trip to Siquijor, but don't forget Apo Island which is a fantastic trip with its protected reefs. Even if you are not into SCUBA, there is some great snorkeling there as well.

If you are looking to stay away from crowds during Holy Week, do not go towards San Fernando with all the Holy Week pageantry and crucifixions and stuff.

Peace,

- Jung

Thanks, Jung! That sounds good. I am not the type that prefers resorts or diving. A peaceful and relaxing time, learning about the area I'm in, and enjoying conversation with the locals is ideal to me.

Of course, I love the Metro too, but since it is my third trip, I want to see different areas this time. Thanks again for the response!

Hi,

Well, too early to plan for that but, anyway, you may want to give your Holy Week an unforgettable experience by visiting some of the places that have these penitents. I heard there are those who are even nailed on the cross...

Based on your interests, I'd recommend to go to Vigan and Pagudpud. The province of Ilocos has got some really great historical sites there.

As for the beaches, aside from Pagudpud, you can try Mairaira Point in Malingay Cove. It's pretty much untouched. There are no bars or restaurants here. Just sand, sea and a few benches.
