| Here is a shot of the bridge construction from Subic Base into Barrio Baretto. I am not sure of the actual bridge name however it is this construction which means one must drive through Olongopo now to get to the tourist areas in Subic Bay we all like to visit. This little detour is not so painful but will add about another 15 to 20 min to your trip depending on traffic. Sometimes Olongopo is jam packed with people although the jeepney and trikes seem to be more orderly and obey traffic laws more than their Angeles cousins. A couple notes on the bridge construction: 1) Construction seems to be going ultra-slow. I meant to get a picture of this during my last trip before this most recent one and quite frankly I haven't seen much progress between then and now. 2) If the previous bridge can hold a damn crane and other construction equipment, why can't it support a vehicle? Even if they limited amount of traffic allowed on the bridge, it would still be better than the detour. 3) I hear rumor that the bridge will have a toll. There is already a 20 pesos toll to get onto Subic Base from the SCTEX and another 20 pesos leaving the base, so perhaps they are instituting a toll on the other side as well. No word if the other gates will also institute a toll once the bridge is open. Peace, - Jung |
