Thumbs up Learn Scuba Diving in Dumaguete and the Visyas

Did you ever have the dream of being one with the nature, feeling weightless, moving in 3 dimensions ?

Your dream can come true. Why you don't try to learn SCUBA Diving.

I am a freelancing SCUBA Dive instructor and work together with different dive-shops in the Visayas and Puerto Galera.

Make your first breath under water in a one by one experience with me n the aquarium-like waters of Dumaguete.

If you are already a diver, why not make the next step and continue your education up to Dive-master.

If you are interested, just drop me a line for more details.

cheers

Rhoody

Default hi rhoody regarding scuba diving

Hi Rhoody,

I would like to learn scuba diving and maybe proceed to scuba master...
I am a very good swimmer, I have experience in snorkeling and I am a college graduate of Mass Communications at Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I am currently in Dumaguete and would like to pursue a Diving Career like you have. I do have experience in photography and film making and would very much like to mixe them and continue to practice them when I get to do Scuba diving. Its like National Geographic or Discovery channel for me which is two of my favorite TV shows. So will it cost me a fortune to have a scuba diving education or are there any scholarship in scuba diving? I was a student assistant scholar in my college years. Hope to hear back from you..

thanks..

-Ed

Hi akando,

first welcome to PB. As we both are in Dumaguete it would be the easiest to meet up and talk about it.

The times where the diving-industry was searching desperately for Dive-masters and Instructors are a kinda over. Most professional dive-centers focus on high-quality.

But there are several options to get into it. Don't forget that in many areas you are competing with local dive-guides who have thousands of dives under their belt and working in that business for many many years.

A big benefit is if somebody tries to get things very good done in a reputable dive-center over some years.

In the 2 big dive-center I was working, we trained some of our staff up to dive-master over the years and when they finally became one, they could basically run a dive-center (and some of them do).

Going into a diving-career has a lot to do with the life-style, not many get rich, at least not many I know, but many get burned out after recognizing that it is hard work with many hours. From a 12 hour day you might be 2-3 in the water, the rest is shared between being a tank boy, maintenance-guy, office-clerk, tourist-guide and mostly entertainer.

I have about 3600 dives and love what I am doing as the few hours in the water make up for all the other hours, but it is not an easy way to go.

Just get in touch with me and we can have a nice chat and a cold one.

cheers from Dumaguete

Rhoody

Hi!

I took my open water course along with my friends in the early 90's, two of us decided to pursue farther and took all the necessary trainings to become a dive master, both of them invested their own money for equipment and trainings (open-advance-rescue ....dm). True enough they became very good dive masters and eventually employed with the most lucrative resort in Northern Palawan, the other one in an upscale hotel in Mactan. For a few years, I heard only good things (how I envied them every time they tell their underwater encounters) since then we seldom met because I haven't been diving since I underwent a major medical procedure.

Sometime early 2004, we had a reunion and I found out that either of them are no longer working as a dive master - they both burned out. Fed up with baby sitting their guests, trouble shooting, speaking in English (all the time) etc. Rhoody is right, to be a divemaster, your mindset and lifestyle must really be consistent with what diving demands.

But if you want to pursue to be a divemaster at a minimal expense, I have an idea that may workout but you have to take the first step - be a certified open water diver.

Well thanks Rhoody, that would be very cool. There are lots of question I want to ask and more knowledge I need to know. I don't really plan to get rich if I become a dive master. I just want to do it.

I went to Manila last March and realize the city life isn't for me so I came here to Dumaguete. I was born in Basilan and grew up in Zamboanga City and spent so many days of my life hanging out in the beach. If ever I become a dive master I plan to help the diving tourism in Zamboanga if things there get better and the tourism there as a whole. I know a few notable people there that can help me .

I plan to dive at turtle island and see for myself if there are turtles there for real . I just feel that there are many unknown best dive site in south of the Philippines that needs to be preserve. Also maybe ill just do it for the love of doing it not for money sake.

and oh this is my cp number 09162242856 and email cajixh12@yahoo.com

cheers

... on of the best and most peaceful activities you can imagine.

divers are the only humans who can move in 3 dimensions without a machine, just with a bit air and a finstroke... a privilege for sure.

You can throw me in the water in the middle of nowhere and let me hang on 20 meters for an hour with nothing around and I come out of the water with shiny eyes and happy, ... :-)
