| Aside from the golden sunsets that grace the late afternoons of Sicayab beach in Dipolog in the Island of Mindanao, the town of Sicayab also takes so much pride in its awesome and precipitous Sicayab Cliff. Unlike other cliffs that are nestled on plain ground or lower rock formations, towering Sicayab Cliff is nestled on deep sea clear water. The pristine waters of Sicayab Beach, with underwater rock formations visible from the surface, unceasingly splash against this high wall of boulders gradually carving it through the centuries. It mirrors the patience of Dipolog people in their untiring efforts to improve their lot in life. Sicayab Cliff should prove a great challenge for rock climbers who have yet to scale a height of solid hard granite with tumultuous splashes of sea waves below. Sicayab Cliff is along the 7-kilometer stretch Sicayab Beach, at the portion where the fine gray sand shore is replaced by underwater rocks. From Dipolog City, going to Sicayab Cliff is about a 4-kilometer ride. For commuting tourists, there are motor cabs available from the city proper to the Sicayab Beach. Sicayab Cliff is among Dipolog’s natural wonders, like Linabo Peak and Sungkilaw Falls, flocked by visitors and tourists for the undisturbed work Mother nature has been doing on them for thousands of years. Wind and waves continuously sculpt the broad rock face of Sicayab Cliff, making some of its edges sharp as a knife, and which adventurous cliff hangers should take special precaution of. Wild green shrubberies hang on the rock’s surface here and there, while some parts of the Sicayab Cliff are carpeted with green bushes and rich undergrowth. From above the Sicayab Cliff one can observe how its foot gently slides down the sea in a curve and rolls down further, disappearing into the distance. So daring divers in Dipolog ought to be warned not to brave precipitating dives to the foot of the Sicayab Cliff lest they meet head-on solid rocks sitting on shallow waters. The best way to enjoy Sicayab Cliff, aside from rock climbing, is to check out its different angles, take pictures either from a small boat coming in from the sea or from above the cliff looking below—-of course, with safety harness. And who knows? Perhaps in the near future, daring hang gliders will see the towering height in Dipolog as a great spot to launch a free gliding fall to the blue sea. For a different Dipolog nature adventure, discover the excitement of seeing the Sicayab Cliff from up-close. Pristine sea waters and beach, plus a vast wall of solid natural rock--the Sicayab Cliff in Dipolog is something tourists shouldn't miss. |
