Default Manila to be Smoke Free...

Well, I'm a non-smoker so I have no problem with this. But I am sure many people will! Manila is reportedly going to be a smoke free region.

Makati has supposedly been smoke free for a while but bars would sneak soda cans to tables for customers so they could smoke anyway so we will see if this is taken seriously or not.

I was just in Davao City and that city is smoke free as well and it is taken very seriously there with no cheating as the business will get fined some serious pesos. I think this is the only thing that will make this new ordinance stick.

Time will see...

It is really time to ban those smokers everywhere in the Philippines, at least it would give me the last and final kick to look for a destination where it is appreciated if foreigner spend their Euros/Dollars.

another bs-idea from a country which falls back daily more behind all competing countries in SE-Asia.

regulating and controlling smoke emissions of trikes, jeepneys would make cities in the PI more enjoyable than pissing off people (expats and tourists) willing to spend money in this country and surely would protect the environment better than beheading all smokers in the PI

Agree 100%. I have a friend that works for American Airlines and travels the world-including trips here to the islands. I remember him saying that out of everywhere he has been that the Philippines is the only place where even the clocks seem to run backwards! Evolution in reverse!!!

Well its a good proposition at all hence it would mainly depend on the governmental bodies who will implement this stringent policy. This would be really hard for those avid smokers!

Well I am not sure which country you are talking about, but in the Philippines, the smoker are certainly the smallest part of the air-pollution ... in and outside the crowded cities.

kick the stinking bad maintained buses, trucks, jeepneys and 2-stroke trikes off the road if you want to have clean air.
