Securing the Future of the Nation

Whitney Houston was right as she sang the phrases:

"I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be."

This simple song expresses the very essence of the importance of taking care of the children. It is certainly a simple reminder of the responsibility of the parents, relatives and the whole society at large regarding securing the future by giving these children a chance to have a life of their own.

The Reality According to some Children

Not all of the children were born with a silver spoon or had been born to families that have enough capability to raise a family. In reality, there is a growing number of children that at their young age that are already deprived of a loving environment, secure shelter, warm clothing and nutritious food, thus really compromising their overall health. Not to mention abusive exploitation such us forcing them to work instead of studying. Since they are not living in a secure home and living in a very hostile surroundings, some of them are even sexually subjugated.

Social Response to This Children's Reality

The Bantay Bata 163 was one of the non-governmental or private organizations that had been founded to help these deprived and abused children. It is like a 911 for the aid of the less-privileged children in the Philippines. This said movement was initiated and created by the Alto Broadcasting System-Chronicles Broadcasting Network or ABS-CBN. According to the foundation’s mission, aside from rescuing young victims of cruelty and abuse, it also provides quality home care, therapy and shelter until they are ready to face their families and the society again. In a nutshell, Bantay Bata 163 gives importance regarding families’ role in raising their children by giving them financial, educational, physical, psychological, mental and emotional support.
