Exclamation Vegetable Price Increase

Prices have gone totally nuts for vegetables here in Angeles at least.

Potatoes and Carrots are at P250 a KILO

Other vegetables are following same trend.

This is all due to the recent typhoons putting farmland and villages under water. Also the transportation system had a meltdown, the highway between Baguio and here is as far as I know not usable at all.

We were in McD the other night and several of their regular menu items were out of stock due to the typhoons as well.

I am off to SM to secure canned veggies and frozen french fries to carry us over this shortage. There is no way I am paying P250 a kilo for regular vegetables...

Wow, I just arrived back in Duma and the time where the rice-cooker in my house runs overtime on high speed for my 2 girls is over. The kitchen is free from dried-fish and canned Sardines are banned from the daily diet....

They need to readjust to "real" food.

For that Rechel needed to go to the market to buy veggies. We only have 2 different kinds of potatoes here, but they go for 60 and 80 peso per KG.

cheers

Rhoody

well at least the government froze the prices on medications, maybe you can life on 1 KG Imodium a day, might come cheaper than potatoes...

But let's do the math:

ticket DGT-MNL: 2,000 Peso (good for 100 kg fat guy plus 15 luggage plus 7 handcarry = 122 kg Potatoes)

privat potatoe pick-up service MNL-AC 2,400 Peso

122 KG potatoes (60 peso/kg) : 7,320 Peso

total cost: 11,720 Peso

122 kg in AC 30,500 PHP

Savings with importing potatoes from Duma : 18.780 Peso per 122 kg potatoes

well, your driver Arnold can do the trip twice a day (4000 peso for his ticket per round-trip - still almost 15 k saving), I can deliver to Duma Airport, you guys can sell to the AC-restaurants 15 peso/kg cheaper than the supermarkets.

Makes about 25 K profit per day, not that bad of a business ...
