Smile Know More About Angeles City

Angeles City is one of the cities in the Philippines that are highly successful. Located in the province of Pampanga, this city boasts of its historical sites which include the Founders’ Residence, the Holy Rosary Church, and the Camalig.

Situated within Pampanga, a province in the Philippines, Angeles City is one city that may be described as highly-urbanized or first class. The population in Angeles City, Pampanga totals to approximately 314,493. One of the main features of this city is its airport called the Diosdado Macapagal Internationl Airport which is situated inside the Clark Freeport Zone. To those who have not heard of the Clark Freeport Zone, this area used to be popularly known as the Clark Air Base and later the name was also changed to Clark Special Economic Zone before it was again changed to Clark Freeport Zone.

Angeles City, Philippines has always been known as the “Entertainment Capital of Central Luzon” as people who stay here must know how to party. The economy of Angeles City was very successful until Mount Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 resulted to economic problems. Since Angeles City was where a United States Air Force base used to be located, such volcanic eruption resulted to the base pullout. Such United States Air Force base was known as the largest base established by the Americans outside their own country.

Angeles City, Philippines has a total of 33 barrios or barangays, namely, Virgen Delos Remedios, Tabun, Sapang Bato, Sapalibutad, Santo Rosario, Santo Domingo, Santo Cristo, Santo Trinidad, Santa Teresita, San Nicolas, San Jose, Salapungan, Pulung Maragul, Pulung Cacutud, Pulungbulo, Pandan, Pampang, Mining, Marisol, Margot, Malabañas, Lourdes Sur East, Lourdes Sur, Lourdes North West, Cutud, Cutcut, Cuayan, Claro M. Recto, Capaya, Balibago, Anunas, Amsic, and Agapito del Rosario.

There are a number of historical sites in Angeles City, Philippines. Among these are the Holy Rosary Church, the Post Office Building, Camalig, and the Founders’ Residence.

The Founders’ Residence is situated at the center of Santo Rosario and is popularly known as the oldest building in Angeles City, Philippines. It was in 1824 when such building was constructed whose owners were the founder of the city, Don Angel Pantaleon de Miranda, and wife Doña Rosalia de Jesus. The house was then inherited by daughter Doña Juana de Miranda de Henson. The house features an ornate gate and high stone. By merely looking at this house, one would feel the magnificent past of the city in the middle of the overpowering assault of modernization.

The Holy Rosary Church is also known as Santo Rosario Church. This Church took years to be constructed, from 1877 to 1896, by a labor system called Polo y Servicio. Such labor system was imposed by the Spanish colonial government on the peasants of the Philippines. From August 1899 until December 1900, the U.S. Army used such Church as a military hospital.

The Camalig was constructed in 1840 and it was the first gobernadorcillo of Angeles City who built such building. He was Don Ciriaco de Miranda. Such building was restored in 1980 to revive the Camalig Restaurant and to also become the site of Armando’s Pizza, owned by Armando L. Nepomuceno, the person responsible for the restoration of the building.
