History of Pandan The history of Pandan starts off in exactly the same way as those of most areas in the Philippines and we can go as far back as the Spanish occupation of the country. When it comes to population, the history of Pandan will tell us that it has always been small district with a population of less than 15,000 people even to this very day. It’s this fact that adds a certain charm to this district and there’s a certain level of comfort among its residents in knowing just about everybody. The history of Pandan in Angeles City starts in 1796 when the entire province was claimed by Don Angel de Miranda in search of a new settlement. They cleared out a part of the woods and made the area suitable for farming. In 1899 when the American forces arrived, the inhabitants of Pandan were among the Filipino soldiers who defended Angeles City, a battle which lasted three whole months. The history of Pandan will tell us that despite the battle between the Filipinos and Americans during the latter’s first arrival, these men fought side by side during the second World War. Today, there are still remnants of the history of Pandan in this district from old structures from centuries back. In fact there are many historical sites in Pandan that one can visit if one is in Angeles City. Pandan and Angeles City Angeles City is a progressive place as we see it today and it draws visitors to it both foreign and local. One of Angeles City’s prized districts is Pandan, and this accounts for about 4 percent of the province’s total population. Despite economic setbacks, Pandan has helped contribute in stabilizing the economy of Angeles City thanks to its local government and the Clark Development Corporation. The conversion of the former US airbase to the Clark Freeport Zone has proven itself to be the turning point when it comes to bolstering the city’s revenue. |
