Default The Historical Thirteen Martys Monument

Caviteños are known for their heroism that earned Cavite one of the eight rays in the Philippine flag. During the Spanish era, the mere opposition of Spanish government of every form will get you into trouble. This is what happened to thirteen Caviteños that are accused of various crimes. They were killed through a firing squad on September 1896.

The town was called Trece Martirez named after the thirteen martyrs. A monument was erected in the exact spot where they were executed which is also near the town’s municipal hall.

My friend and I visited the monument a few years ago. The experience was a bit sad as the monument was depicted in their different stage of being shot of the thirteen martyrs. The monument seemed so real. The said monument is the centerpiece of the park. We found out through the writings in the wall that the thirteen martyrs were accused of different things and are not working as a group. They did not waiver and die as heroes. We are taking advantage that we are near the place to pay respect to our heroes and hope that we can also be heroes in our own little ways.
