Binakayan Public Market Kawit is unusually different from many old towns in the Philippines. You can observe that provincial town centers normally have the municipal hall, church, schools and public market. Town center is usually called “bayan”. This is true in several towns in Cavite like Naic and Rosario.
But Kawit is quite different. The municipal hall is in the town center as well as the church and a school, while the public market is situated a few kilometers away.
Kawit’s public market is called Binakayan public market as it is located in Binakayan in Kawit. Binakayan is considered a central market wherein people in the nearby town exert effort to patronize Binakayan public market. Suppliers of various goods sells their merchandise to Binakayan in bulk, thus stall owners were able to sell their goods cheaper than other nearby markets.
Binakayan public market is known to have wider choices at a cheaper price. The market used to be muddy even without the rain until the old market was burned by fire. The town government builds a newer and better market. The floor was cemented and have roof. The public now enjoy cleaner market and the merchandise is still cheaper with wide variety of items to choose from.
The popularity of the market still holds despite the introduction of new and modern supermarkets just a few steps away from the market. |
