Default Tawilis Fish - Found only in taal lake, batangas

It's one of my favorite fish dishes. I like it grilled then dip it in soy sauce and kalamansi. Tawilis populations are found only in a single lake on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Taal Lake, a large body of water in the province of Batangas. they are small fishes about 5 to 15 centimeters long and 15 to 30 grams in weight.
They are one of the endangered species. in fact from year to year local fishermen says chances of catching this fishes getting lower and lower. It's main cause is due to overfishing and pollution of the lake beacuse of the many waste thrown there. These all can lead to its extinction the near future.but the demand of tawilis are getting higher. Specially in tagaytay where you have a perfect view of the lake where it came from the restaurants are serving different tawilis dishes.
If you haven't eat tawilis then i think it's time to taste that unique fish that can only be found at taal lake.
Look out for it in the local market sometimes it's available specially in the months of april to july.
But prepare for the bucks too.
That my short info of our local food.

Default Endengared Tawilis

I mean Endangered Tawilis.

Inasmuch as I want to try your recommendation , I won't.

Tawilis is in the endangered list of species RP has 15 endangered fishery, aquatic species,

Most locals still proudly recommend to try it at least once. On one hand it is good to be proud of our own but on the other hand promoting things unique in our locality causes more harm. The best thing to do is stop fishing Tawilis from Taal Lake, cooperate with the government, GA's and NGO's Tawilis rehabilitation program (if any or you may organize one) and wait for the specie to replenish. Only then we can eat it again but under strict regulation, else with the high demand the new stock will just readily dwindle again.
