Red face My version about Pang-lao word

The sadness version of some local tourism people in Bohol about the origin of pang-lao word could be because of its similarity to the word "pang-hupaw" or sighing or physical and facial expression of being sad.
But people there are not sad. they are happy people.
Once I had slept in the parish convent of Dauis church on the island when I was a kid during the era of Monsignor Mascarinas, my late mother's relative.
So there could be not truth that pang-lao comes from word meaning sad.
The nearest could be my version since "pang" is a suffix while "lao" could come from the word laot or laod, or the sea.So pang-lao is "only for the sea" since the island is a jump-off area in going to the high seas. The datus, who originally inhabited the island during pre-Hispanic times, even used the island as their jump-off site to their adventure to Mindanao.Ethnically the badjaos are called "sama di-laot" or people of the sea, which is similar to pang-lao or pang-laod.
