Default Hiya

While I generally understand the concept of "hiya" I would be greatly interested to hear from some locals how they would describe this very deep and meaningful word.

I ask as the English level on this board is much higher than I have seen by some locals posting and I am generally impressed with the explination of some of the other Tagalog words in this forum, so let's have at this difficult concept of "hiya"!

I believe the Korean equivilent is "han"... But I guess if you don't speak Korean that won't help. Hehehehe
