I have just installed 2 more antiSPAM scripts on the forum, so please PM me if you have any problems with the new setup.

The level of spam was getting to a point it was drowning real posts - so something had to be done.

it just caught the first spammer and put his crap on auto-moderation so it won't show in the forum

Good decision; I was also tired to see the daily cell phone spam threads, even you deleted it immediately. There are now tools for automatic forum spam posts. Those terrible tools are able to recognize the captcha, register, send the confirmation mail and post their spam. All done automatically .. many forums have problems with this BS. Good to know that you are able to handle and avoid it !

Yeah - I was hoping that using RE-Captcha for the first 10 posts of new users would curb the brunt of the spam because even the most sophisticated automatic spammer(Xrumer) can not solve RE-Captcha by itself...

But anyways, I installed Monkeystop which prevents links posted by new users and Akishmet - a good and very well working spam stopped used mostly on blogs...

I have no problem with users promoting their businesses on the forum here as long as it is done in a fair and proper way - very much like you are doing, provide good information and leave your link in the signature. Doing it this way gives goodwill amongst other users and it makes people want to come and meet the poster.
