Lambanog What is lambanog? For the benefit of those who do not have the native Filipino tongue, lambanog is an alcoholic drink made from the distilled sap of the unopened coconut flower thus others call this as coconut vodka.
I would never really know of where in the Philippines this indigenous drink has originated but based on the Filipino culture this alcoholic drink is men’s favorite in the provinces. One reason would probably that this is readily available because some locals can prepare it at home. Because it is usually homemade expect that they have a stash of this beverage enough to accommodate the whole gang. And also Lambanog is like a test of manhood, a boy is a man if he can endure the alcohol content that is 80 to 90 proof or some distills it to reach the alcohol content of up to 116 proof.
Lambanog has now gone a long way because this has evolved to be accepted in the urban market. Now aside from the plain and simple coconut vodka the lambanog now have flavors to suit the preferences of the urban yuppies. My favorite flavors are bubble gum and pineapple. In my opinion, I still prefer seeing men drinking the plain ones it looks manly. |
