BI warning: Don’t ignore summons Don’t ignore summons, BI tells foreigners Quote:
The Bureau of Immigration on Sunday warned foreigners not to ignore their summons or they will be deported for violating Immigration laws.
Immigration Spokesman Floro Balato Jr. issued the warning after the BI deported Owen Sterling, a British national, for unjustly firing a security guard employed at his Wow Wow Dancing Table/Singing Bar and Restaurant located along Burgos Street , Poblacion, Makati City.
The complainant, a certain Antonio de Luna, alleged that the Briton dismissed him from his job without any reason.
De Luna said sometime in May 2009, he went to Batangas and did not report for work although he informed his employer that he will be absent that day. But when he reported the next day, he was surprised to learn that Sterling had hired another security guard to replace him.
He said Sterling is only a tourist and is illegally working in the country as owner and manager of the said nightclub.
The BI, in its deportation order, said Sterling “was given all the time and opportunities to answer the instant complaint against him.”
It added that due to the Briton’s “continuous refusal to abide by our legal processes despite notices, we are compelled to take complainant’s allegations at its face value, the same being uncontroverted.”
Aside from ordering the Briton’s expulsion, the board also ordered him to pay a fine of P50,000 as additional penalty for violating immigration laws.
