Smile Jobs for Expats in the Philippines

One of the countries rising as an industrialized nation is the Philippines. The present economic condition has a lot of potential for industrialization. However there are still many unemployed citizens and is an estimated eight percent already. Most families also have a budget for living not exceeding two US dollars each day. The high rate for the unemployed could be caused by the decline of the jobs for agriculture since the agriculture of the country makes up thirty percent of the workforce. The increase of the industrial jobs could not compensate the lost agricultural jobs.

The Philippines is a country located below the equatorial line which means it has a tropical weather. The seasons cannot really be defined hence tends to be unpredictable. The summer typically starts in March and ends before June. June is the month where rain begins.

It is an archipelago surrounded by many beaches. The Philippines boast of many sandy beaches that are pure white attracting many tourists. The people can also speak English fluently so language does not become a barrier in communicating with the citizens.

The expatriates who are living in the country usually hold jobs in a managerial position. They usually move to the Philippines since they were given a high salary job offer for the office of the company in the Philippines. There are also others who came to invest and build a business in the Philippines.

Presently the minimum salary dictated by the law is at nine dollars for a job that lasts for eight hours. The low salary could be a good thing for people who want to move to build a business and become the employer. A senior manager in the Philippines usually earns around one thousand six hundred US dollars in one month. The other positions earn lower than one thousand dollars. It is relatively low if compared to wages given in developed nations.

However the salary is also equal to the living costs in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. A skilled laborer may earn a yearly income of almost two thousand US dollars only and a graduate from a university typically earns a yearly income of four thousand US dollars. The locals and the expatriates alike both contribute to the Social Security Services by the government. Other benefits typically given are allowances for sickness, maternity and medical benefits.

The taxes required by the Philippine government can be relatively higher because of the lower income the country generates. The taxes could be an income tax for the corporate worker, value added tax, taxes on properties, community taxes and vehicle taxes. The expatriates will have a difficult time becoming a citizen of the Philippines and they will still be tourists for a long time before they can be naturalized. The tourists like most expatriates are however not required by the Philippine government to render taxes. They are only required for permanent residents of the country. The only tax that a tourist expatriate should pay is the taxes from the wage they earn on their job.

The actual rate of unemployment may have increased from the time you've posted this thread and I agree that we have great economic potential considering the low wage and English communication skills but I wish to correct your entry that:

The Philippines is located 14°35′N, we are in fact above the equator.
