Rest this Wednesday for employees and students in Quezon City. It is declared holiday as per RA No. 6741 that August 19 is Quezon City Day in commemoration of the birth date of former President Manuel L. Quezon.
Quezon City was also named after President Manuel L. Quezon the former president of the Commonwealth Philippines. He founded and developed this city. This city was the former capital of Metro Manila. It was declared 1948 and ended 1976. Thus being a former capital for about twenty eight years, many government offices are located here like Batasang Pambansa, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Social Security System (SSS), Nationnal Statistic Office (NSO), Office of the Ombudsman, and others. Two of the county’s major universities are also in QC these are University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila.
With regards to public transport access QC has MRT 3 wherein5 stations are located. The stations at North Avenue (by 2010 this is the interchange line of the yellow LRT line), Quezon Avenue, Araneta Center-Cubao, and Santolan. QC also has LRT 2 stations, these are: Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center-Cubao (interchange line of MRT blue line), Anonas, and Katipunan.
Currently, the officials of QC are: Mayor – Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., Vice Mayor – Herbert “Bistek” Bautista. QC has four districts and the representatives are: 1st District – Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo, 2nd District – Mary Ann Susano, 3rd District Matias Defensor Jr., and 4th District – Nanette Castelo-Daza.
