Christmas is Around the Corner

It is only August and I am already thinking about Christmas. As a Pinoy I should really be excited about it because it is the most awaited time of the year in PH. And some radio stations already played Christmas songs on air. Philippines is known to have the longest Christmas celebration in the world. The preparation for this event begins on the first “ber” month that is September. We have 4 “ber” months (September, October, November, and December) and in the first 3 months the department stores and other business outlets have already put up their Christmas decors. Also during these “ber” months all marketing and promotional campaigns from various consumer products are all taking advantage of Christmas commercialism.

For the information of those who reads my threads I’ll mention a few events that will happen on December and perhaps you’ll have thoughts of including some in your Christmas vacation itinerary.

Pastores Bikol – Legaspi City, Bicol. To commemorate the shepherds of Bethlehem.

Tribal Christmas – Cabarroguis, Quirino. Street dancing of various tribes in the province.

Misa de Gallo – December 16-24. This is celebrated all over the country. It is believed that if you complete the 9 night masses your wish will come true.

Misa de Aguinaldo – December 25. The mass celebrating the birth of infant Jesus.

Panunuluyan – Bulacan. December 24. Reenactment of the Mary and Joseph looking for an Inn to stay

Maytinis –December 24. Cavite’s version of the Panunuluyan

Pasko sa Tanjay – Negros Oriental. December 1 and ends on the Feast of the Three Kings, that is the first Sunday of January. This is a month long festival participated by residents, civic organizations, and business establishments.

Christmas Symbol Festival – Tangub City. Month long festival by displaying indigenous Christmas symbols.

I like x-mas time too, it is the only time of the year where it is allowed to throw stones and other objects at people standing in front of your gate and making annoying noise, dragged to Dumaguete by gangs from Mindanao.
