Default Solar Eclipse on July 22

Extracted from News - INQUIRER.net
Philippine Daily Inquirer

A partial solar eclipse (occurs when the moon only partially obscures the sun) will be visible in the Philippines on July 22, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday.

The eclipse will start in Metro Manila at exactly 8:33:01 a.m. and will achieve maximum visibility at 9:43 a.m. It will end at 11:01:51 a.m. According to the agency’s website, the partial eclipse– which means the moon will only cover part of the sun– could be seen from Metro Manila, Calayan Island, Cities of Laoag, Tuguegarao, Baguio, Angeles, Puerto Princesa, Lucena, Naga and General Santos, and the provinces of Iloilo, Cebu, Zamboanga, Sulu and Davao.

REMINDER
PAGASA warned observers not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse without eye protection. They can use sunglasses, smoked glass, X-ray film, photographic film or negatives.

Default last eclipse

I've researched for the last time we experienced a solar eclipse here in the Philippines, and found out that it was just around January of this year! I could not even remember the time it happened, though.

Here is a nice photo from Astronomy Picture of the Day

Do not forget solar filters for your camers if you want to capture the sun's image on the 22nd.

Is this for real? Dumaguete boulevard, empty?!

as i write, it's becoming dimmer outside...not sure if it is due to the eclipse or a rain shower is coming....hehehe!!

I saw the partial eclipse before 8:30am, much earlier than the prediction.
Reports say that India had experienced the longest total solar eclipse of the century -6 mins while Shanghai didn't enjoyed the eclipse very much because of the heavy clouds blocking the sky.

A dear friend of mine, went to Shanghai earlier this week just to witness the spectacle. Oh dear!

Wink Chinese eclipse

...it's a trip that's worth it for those who can afford it considering that it's the last such event to occur within our lifetime...
