Thumbs up Ukay in Davao

Ukay- ukay are very popular plan B for fashionista or trend setters in terms of clothing especially for those with tight budget. Ukay- ukay are slightly used or factory rejects clothing from other countries like Japan, United States of America and Korea.

They arrive in Philippines packed in plastic bails well sorted and labeled according to type and classified as Class “A to C”, each pack varies from children’s clothing to male and female tops, bed linens, assorted tops, bags and even stuff toys are available.

Ukay ukay are everywhere In Davao City and I enjoy shopping per se, not to mention cheap and quality must finds, top of the mags brands are easy to find there. Every Saturday is the opening of the big bails by selected boutique owners. They got to select the best from the group first for their personal stock later for sale. They are given quota to meet before opening each bail.

The rest of the unselected clothes from the bail are sold at 3 for 100 pesos. It is a mountain of ukay-ukay to choose from. To is able to find the best you have to be patent and willing to sit down and scan every pile of cloth.

Ukay ukay clothes may be used already but I find the Ukay-ukay latest than the fashion trend in the Philippines. I remember wearing pants from ukay that it took 2 years before my ukay pants style was on “trend on mode”.

Ukay- ukay can best found at Bankerohan, Imperial, Lizada, Uyanguren and Agdao streets in Davao.
