Philippines tops Miss Earth swimsuit prelims

Quote:
ANOTHER Filipina is getting closer to winning the country’s second Miss Earth title.

Miss Philippines Sandra Inez Suravilla Seifert—who got disqualified in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas tilt after its organizers found out she had a provocative pictorial for a men’s magazine two years ago—was adjudged Best in Swimsuit in the preliminary judging of the Miss Earth beauty pageant, held at the Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino in Clarkfield, Pampanga, Sunday midnight.

The 25-year-old part-German, professional runway model and registered nurse beat 14 other hopefuls, including second to fourth placers Alejandra Echevarria Pedrajas of Spain, lawyer Jessica Barboza of Venezuela, and Alejandra Castillo Munera of Colombia.

Completing the roster, selected from three groups of delegates who simultaneously competed in the minor swimsuit competitions held in Batangas, Bicol and Pampanga were Larissa Ramos of Brazil, Lateesha Khamila Ector of Canada, Jamilette Gaxiola of Cuba, Magalie Audrey Thierry of France, Korinna Kocsis of Hungary, Mandy Nandu of Malaysia, Natalia Quinones Perez of Mexico, Gabriela Mercedes Rejala of Paraguay, Graziella Rogers of Switzerland, Alison Grace Capron of Turks and Caicos, and Amy Diaz of the United States.

Born in Taiwan but grew up in Negros Occidental and the United States, Seifert completed her education at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City. She received a sash, trophy and $1,000 cash. China’s Yan Xu, meanwhile, was named Miss Earth Fontana—a minor title won by Karla Paula Ginteroy Henry, who became the country’s and Asia’s first Miss Earth, last year.

She is also among the 15 finalists who competed in the evening gown category at the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. Grand Theater in Parañaque City on Nov. 16. She wore a free-flowing gown accentuated with blue, red, green and yellow Swarovski crystals designed by Dubai-based couturier Michael Cinco. The gown costs $20,000.

If Seifert would win the crown come coronation night at the Boracay Ecovillage Convention Center next Sunday, it will be the first time in Miss Earth’s history that one country won the title in consecutive years, just like what happened to the Miss Universe pageant last August when Stefania Fernandez Krupij of Venezuela was crowned by her compatriot Dayana Sabrina Mendoza Moncada.
