Lightbulb Boracay: 2 Koreans die, 1 injured in parasailing accident

Two Koreans died while one was seriously injured in a parasailing accident on Friday in this resort island.

PO3 Recie Bulanon said the Koreans were parasailing when strong winds and rains struck them around 11 a.m.

Bulanon said Sung Ji An (female), 25, is in a critical condition in an undisclosed hospital in Iloilo.

Those who died were Kim Sang Wou (male), 25, and Jong Mi Kyoung (female), 23.

They were rescued by the staff of Jals Sea Sports, a Korean establishment where they rented the parasailing equipment.

Last August 4, Korean national Lee Woon Hyung, owner of the Isla Bora Hotel and stockholder of the Boracay Water World, Inc., also died in a parasailing accident after strong winds slammed him to a coconut tree.

In July, a motor banca from Boracay carrying 20 laborers and a female Korean capsized at sea due to a twister.

These incidents are reportedly the result of the erratic weather due to climate change.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Technical Director for Research Dr. Alicia Lustica said stakeholders, residents and the government must now seriously consider the reality of the climate change issue to prevent accidents in this island.

My 2cents: Don`t choose the cheapest offer .. security should have priority. Check the equipment, how does the boat look, how is the condition of the parachute and and ... Get a comment about your choice from your resort. How long are they in business ? How is their reputation ? How is the first impression ? And .. no risk when you are not sure about the weather condition. There is a good weather forecast, for example also for Boracay, at accuweather.com.

condolences to the families.

I am not sure if climate change and global warming can be hold responsible for parasailing accidents... or is it more the fault of not qualified/trained operators, lousy equipment, lacking common sense (like doing that kind of stuff in strong wind and rain)...

Yes, I fully agree to Rhoody. And .. some visitors are not aware about their risks .. Yesterday was bad weather, rain and high waves .. but some tourists dont care and swim even close to the rocks:

Dennis Trillo companion dies in Boracay accident

Movie and TV personalities Dennis Trillo and Max Eigenmann are “shocked and distraught” over the Boracay accident that claimed the life of their non-showbiz companion on Sept. 9 but are both all right now, according to their respective managers.

“(Trillo) is shocked and distraught but he’s OK,” Popoy Caritativo told Manila Bulletin Online a few hours after the accident.

He added that his ward who’s also a prized GMA-7 talent was taken to a clinic in Boracay for the treatment of the cuts and other minor injuries that he sustained after the accident.

Caritativo said Trillo knew that his non-showbiz friend, Jolly Bee Bordajo, already passed away.

“He’s still in shock kaya hindi ko masyadong makausap sa phone,” he pointed out.

The Coast Guard District in Caticlan, Aklan, where Boracay Island is located had reported that Trillo, Eigenmann, and Bordajo were swimming in the afternoon of Sept. 9 at a resort in Brgy. Biniwid when a giant wave caught their group causing them to disperse in different areas.

The report added that elements from the Coast Guard-Caticlan District immediately dispatched their search and rescue vessel to conduct rescue operation. Trillo and Eigenmann were found and rescued at once, but it took several more minutes before the coast guards found the unconscious Bordajo, who was then taken to the Seneres Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival due to drowning.

Caritativo said that Trillo and Bordajo went to Boracay on Sept. 8 for a vacation.

Trillo had just wrapped up work on Channel 7’s comedy series, “Adik sa ‘Yo,” which will end on Sept. 11 while his latest Regal Films project, “Tarot,” opened on Aug. 26.

“That’s why he needed a vacation,” Caritativo said, adding that Trillo is scheduled to fly back to Manila on Sept. 10.

Eigenmann, on the other hand, is a mainstay of ABS-CBN’s “Agimat: Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla Sr. Presents Tiagong Akyat” and TV5’s “Lipgloss.” She belongs to the illustrious Eigenmann clan of actors along with her father Mark Gil and brother Sid Lucero.

Today I read that the Provincial Tourism Council will establish baywatch teams to patrol the Boracay beaches as safety measures to avert accidents like the above mentioned ....

Quote:
The Provincial Tourism Council is expecting to establish baywatch teams to patrol the beaches in the island.
Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, chairman of the Provincial Tourism Council and Task Force Bantay Boracay, said trained and hardworking baywatch lifesavers, similar to the Baywatch show, will protect the lives of tourists coming to the world-famous beaches of Boracay.
Baywatch is the popular American television show of beautiful life guards on the Los Angeles beach and their adventures of saving lives of hapless beach-goers.
Known for its crystal-clear water and powdery white sand beaches, Boracay has two popular tourism beaches, Bulabog Beach, home to kiteboarding, parasailing, windsurfing and all other extreme water sports in the island, and the four kilometer White Beach from Barangay Manoc-Manoc to Barangay Balabag.
A non-showbiz companion of actor Dennis Trillo and actress Maxine Eigenmann was killed in a tragic Boracay accident on September 9 in Sitio Diniwid. Two South Korean tourists also died while another woman was seriously injured in a parasailing accident.
Last August, another Korean died after he hit a coconut tree while kite boarding off Barangay Manoc-Manoc.
Marquez said parasailing and kiteboarding owners should take safety measures to avert accidents or injury involving tourists and residents in the island, especially during bad weather.
