Default How to Stay Safe in Bohol Philippines

Bohol is one of the popular tourist destinations in the Southern Philippines. This province is known for its natural wonders and its exotic wildlife. The most widely-known tourist spot in Bohol is the Chocolate Hills. These mounds of soil appear like mounds of chocolate during summer. Thus, the reason for its name. However, during the wet season, grass begins to grow on the hills creating a scene of refreshing greens.

When visiting Bohol, just like when staying in any vacation spot anywhere in the world, every tourist must take into consideration his or her safety during the tour. Here are some ways on how a person can stay safe while enjoying the scenic province of Bohol.

* Register with the local tourism authorities

Aside from visiting your country's embassy or consulate upon arriving in the Philippines, it also helps to register with the local tourism authorities upon arriving in a tourist destination. Although this is not mandatory, informing the tourism authorities on your itinerary will help you stay safe during your tour.

* Check in at a reputable hotel, resort or home rental

To enhance Bohol safety, the tourism department has a list of accredited and reputable establishments in the province. If you wouldn't like to bother yourself making the accommodation arrangements, you can book your trip with an accredited travel agency and them take care of the details of your Bohol trip for you.

* Keep your travel documents in a safe place

Even though you are safe, your travel belongings can easily get lost during your travel and changes in accommodations. Get a small backpack, belt bag or sling bag in which you can place your important documents and take them wherever you go while in Bohol.

* Don't flaunt your cash or belongings

The surest way to attract people with ill intentions is to flaunt your financial value. Even though many locals believe that foreigners have lots of cash, you don't have to “show” them your money by splurging during your trip.

You can get comfortable accommodations and sumptuous food during your Bohol trip at a fraction of their prices in Manila. While the staff at the local establishments will appreciate a tip or a gift, learn to determine the right amount to give.

Local officials continue to enhance Bohol safety in order to promote tourism in the province. On your own, you should also take safety precautions so that nothing can spoil your trip in this peaceful yet exotic Philippine destination.

Bohol is one of the commonly visited tourist attractions in the Philippines by foreign tourists. Although tourists are the usual targets of thieves, by employing enough safety precautions, tourists will enjoy their trip to Bohol.
