| Situated 54 kilometers away from the Northwest of Tagbilaran City, Tubigon in Bohol, is a fine municipality that is best known for its “lambay” crabs. Closest to Cebu, it has seaports that provide ferry trips to Cebu City on a daily basis. Brief History The town of Tubigon in Bohol attracted settlers with its natural beauty. The first settlers, presumed to be from Malay descent, set up communities along the river banks. Soon, as a result of the sense of belongingness and constant dealings with each other, they formed a political unit under a “Cato”, which is now commonly known as the Barangay Captain. Being under water during rainy seasons , it was named “Tubigan” which means a place with water. It was later changed to “Tubigon” which describes a place bound by water. The community formally became a town separate from the town of Calape in 1918. The first governardorcillo was Capitan Teniente Matong. In the year 1852, sitio Bacane was defined as the boundary between Tubigon, Bohol and Inabanga. Between, Calape and Tubigon Bohol, Sampilangon was marked as the boundary between two towns. Transportation Tubigon, Bohol houses one of the largest ports in the province. The seaport operates two modern fastcrafts and six conventional vessels that make a total of twenty trips to and from Cebu in a day. Meanwhile, traveling towards the capital city of Bohol is not a problem since the Main National road is cemented. It only takes one hour to get to Tagbilaran City. There are also other main roads towards Catigbian and San Isidro. However, these are still undergoing development. Public transportation usually includes buses that make trip to any place within Bohol. The buses to Tagbilaran City leave every 30 minutes. Tubigon Bohol’s Tourist Spots Attracting many people towards Bohol is the Mt. Ilihan. In this mountain, a hermit practicing her passion has been living with her daughter for the past 25 years. With them is a group of people who belongs to the Subano Group of the Catholic of Holy God Spirit. Another popular tourist spot is the old stone of the Tubigon Church. It is found on a hill with a view of the public plaza, the coast and the town’s market. An old stone archway welcomes people at the front. It is also the place to be when the San Isidro Labrador Feast is celebrated. Tubigan has been known as the gateway to the beautiful island of Bohol. One can easily go from Cebu City to the island via a ferry ride. Although it has only a few tourist spots, it’s considered as a first class municipality in Bohol. A gateway to Bohol, Tubigan houses fine seaports providing round trips to and from Cebu. An independent town 1918, it also has famous tourist spots that will invite people to visit there. |
