Smile A Visit to Bohol Island

Choosing Bohol

The Philippines is home to a wide array of premiere tourist destinations. Blessed with numerous tourist friendly spots and locales, it can sometimes be hard and overwhelming for travelers to pick places to include in their itineraries. Bohol Island would be a good place to start.

For one, its right in the middle of the country, which means you have the option of either going north or south once you’ve finished your Bohol adventures. And it definitely helps that this Visayan province is as majestic and beautiful as any place in the Philippines.

Getting there

There are several ways to get to Bohol Island. If you have plenty of time to spend, you can take a 25 hour boat ride from Manila. Again, if you’re coming from Manila, you can fly to Cebu then continue your journey by boat.

The boat ride from Cebu to Tagbilaran depends on the type of craft you will be traveling in. If you pick to ride a regular ferry, it will take about four hours. If you choose to ride a fast boat, it will only take an hour and a half.

Nature trips

So what is there to do in Bohol Island you might ask? Well there’re plenty of activities to do in this province.

First up is taking nature trips. Be it going to the white sand beaches that dot the coastlines, or experiencing the natural beauty of the renowned Chocolate Hills, or taking a sightseeing trip that will give you a glimpse of the diverse animal and plant life that thrives on the island, there’s plenty to keep you occupied during your stay in Bohol.

Cultural experience

If you are more keen to experience the culture of the island than taking nature trips, or if you’re done experiencing its natural beauty, then you can visit some of the historic sites that Bohol has to offer.

Baclayon church, located six kilometers from Tagbiliran is well worth the visit. It’s considered to be one of the countries oldest churches. Baclayon church also has a nearby museum that showcases antique relics dating back as far as the 16th century.

Aside from Baclayon church, there are other old churches in the island, including the churches in the towns of Loon, Laboc, Maribojoc, and Dauis.

An unforgettable Philippine experience

Bohol Island is a nature and culture lover’s dream destination. It offers a wide mix of the modern and the classic, which will surely please travelers in search of an unforgettable experience in the Philippines.

Bohol Island offers diverse activities that are sure to please even the most finicky traveler. Its natural and cultural beauty makes it one of the leading tourist spots in the Philippines.
