| Bohol is one of the largest islands of the Philippines. The province continues to develop its unique destinations to boost the island's tourism. Tourist Attractions of Bohol Bohol is one of the provinces located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. It is composed of a main island (Bohol island) and 73 nearby smaller islands. It is at the southeast of Cebu, with the Bohol Strait in between the two major Philippines islands. It is also at the southwest of Leyte, which is bordered by the Canigao Channel and Camotes Sea. To its south is the Bohol Sea and the Mindanao Islands. Because of the rich natural resources of Bohol, it is starting to be one of the favorite tourist destinations in the Philippines. Chocolate Hills of Bohol The oldest-known and most popular tourist spot in the island of Bohol is the Chocolate Hills. More than 1,200 mounds of grass-covered limestone that are located in the municipalities of Sagbayan, Carmen, Batuan, Bilar, Bullones, Sierra and Valencia. Each cone is almost symmetrical in shape that some people find it hard to believe that these are natural formations. There are various theories on the origin of the Chocolate Hills. Several theories explain that these formations were due to some volcanic activities. One theory relates its formation to the movement of the seabed while another says that the hill formation is due to the weathering of limestone. Because of the existence of these different theories, it is not surprising that a tourist will encounter different explanations while visiting the site or while reading travel magazines. During the dry season, the hills are brown, making them appear like mounds of chocolate kisses. That was how the popular destination got its name. However, during the wet season, the hills are green since they are covered with grass and ferns. Panglao Island Beach lovers and diving enthusiasts will never run out of activities as they spend their vacation in Panglao island. From the main island of Bohol, Panglao island is located at the southwest of Tagbilaran City and is accessible by boat. The seas surrounding Panglao island have diverse coral formations and marine life that this destination is usually listed as one of the best diving spots in the world. Philippine Tarsier Tourists who are looking for unique wildlife should not miss spotting a tarsier at the wildlife parks of Bohol. The Philippine tarsier is the world's second smallest primate. It is indigenous to Bohol and cannot be found naturally anywhere else in the world or the country. These are just some of the tourist attractions of Bohol. The province is also rich in festivals and traditions that it is also better to schedule a trip during the province's special days. |
