Default Panglao Island Attractions

The island of Panglao is shared by two Municipalities: Dauis and Panglao, it has a karst geologic formation and blessed with some of the most spectacular places in the world. To optimize your Panglao Island trip, try renting a motorbike and explore the following sites:

Panglao Belltower
The old bell tower was constructed apart from the dated construction in the church complex and may have been used for two purposes; bell tower and watch tower at the same time. It is best viewed from afar since the structure is no longer structurally sound, a long –due restoration is needed.

Dauis Church – located in the town center opposite Dauis Municipal Hall, it is the only church with a spring water well in front of the altar, it also houses a convento overlooking the Tagbilaran City. In a recent development, the church (Our Lady of Assumption Shrine Parish) in partnership with Beatriz Susana Zobel de Ayala, Jr. established Cafe Lawis as a component project of Dauis Renaissance Program aiming for community development, heritage conservation, sustainable and responsible tourism .

Hinagdanan Cave is a naturally lighted cavern with a deep lagoon and stalactites and stalagmites with easy access. The natural lighting passes through the holes at the cavern’s ceiling, producing a magnificent effect. Visitors may swim at the mineral laden pool. “Hinagdanan “ from the Filipino root word “hagdan” or stairs, the steps were provided with concrete stairs and walkway, it is located in Brgy. Bingag in Dauis ( Dauis town is located in Panglao Island where Panglao town is also situated) .

Bingag Cavealso located in Brgy. Bingag , Bingag Cave is not easily accessible. The entrance to the cave is narrow such that only a person at a time can pass. It has become a favorite spot for excursionists and picnickers.

Panglao Beaches
Alona Beach is a stretch of 1.5 kilometers of white sand beach in Brgy. Tawala, Panglao. It is the most popular beach for foreign and local tourist and the most equipped; a number of dive shops are operating in the area. It has several mid-range and budget (Panglao is relatively more expensive than other places in the Philippines) accommodations and restaurants to choose from.. The term Alona was coined when in appreciation of Ms. Alona Alegre, a local sexy star when she had shoot a film there in the 70’s.

Dumaluan Beach- is about two and half kilometers east of Alona Beach, the more exclusive beach resorts of Panglao are located here in Brgy. Tawala, Panglao.

Public Beach – frequented by local Boholano’s but boundaries is always redefined since it is bounded by privately owned beach property, as of my 2006 visit cheap local day – cottages are available.
Other less crowded beaches are: Doljo and Momo Beaches both in the northern part of Panglao town.

Dauis Beaches

Bikini Beach is located in Brgy. Biking, Dauis, it’s the local’s favorite because water is calmer in this side of the island and there are lots of shady palm trees around.
Other short stretches of beach are in Brgy. Dao and Bingag.

A proposed international airport in Panglao is set to be operational by December 2010 (any update on this?)
