We were so tired from our out of town trip so we decided to eat out instead of cooking. We went to Giligan’s Festival Mall wearing our shorts and slippers. We didn’t bother to change our clothes since the place isn’t fancy.
After eating dinner, we decided to drink beer before heading home. We ordered 2 rounds of their beer promo – 3 San Mig Light for P100. The waiter – Ronald Tenorio, took our order, but after about 10 minutes informed us that we could not avail the promo since we are wearing slippers and shorts. He then pointed that napkin holder stating such policy. There was a piece of paper taped in the napkin holder stating - Male customers wearing short sleeves and shorts OR slippers and shorts are not allowed to drink beer.
I asked what the logic is behind the policy. According to him, the policy is to keep bystanders away from their store. “Marami po kasing kabataan na pumupunta dito para lang mag beer.” At that time, we already consumed more than P1000 worth of food! He then told us that we can still order beer but it will be at regular prices. He said that we can’t avail the promo because of what we are wearing. Ang labo ng policy! I was pissed but was so tired to argue. I tried asking for the store manager, the waiter said that he is the officer in charge. We just paid for the bill and left not leaving a tip.
With this experience, I will never dine at this store again!
By the way, at that time I was wearing sandals that cost more than P2000. Hindi ito Spartan or Beachwalk lang.
For those who are planning to go to Gilligan’s, make sure that you are well dressed; otherwise, you may also be discriminated. |
